The Minister emphasized that such actions violate human rights and undermine mutual respect and trust between neighboring countries. He stated that ensuring the safety and dignity of civilians is a fundamental responsibility of any nation.<\/p>\n
He further noted that Sri Lankan fishermen have long expressed concerns over Indian fishermen frequently entering Sri Lankan waters for fishing. Despite this, Sri Lankan fishermen have often acted with restraint and treated Indian fishermen with a sense of close ties.<\/p>\n
However, the Minister pointed out that Sri Lanka\u2019s marine resources have been repeatedly exploited, and illegal fishing methods have caused serious damage to the marine environment and fish stocks. This has significantly affected the livelihoods of local fishermen.<\/p>\n
He added that several rounds of discussions have already been held with Indian authorities and fisheries officials to address these issues. Strengthening cooperation between the two countries is essential to prevent illegal fishing activities.<\/p>\n
The Minister stressed that a prompt and fair investigation must be conducted into the incident, and appropriate legal action should be taken against those responsible.<\/p>\n
