An inmate has died following an incident at the Colombo Remand Prison Magazine, prompting the arrest of a prison officer and a security guard.<\/p>\n
According to Department of Prisons Sri Lanka, a special investigation has been launched into the incident, as confirmed by its media spokesperson A.C. Kajanayake.<\/p>\n
Accordingly, an internal inquiry is being conducted under the supervision of an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons.<\/p>\n
The incident occurred yesterday morning at the prison, where two inmates and a prison officer sustained injuries and were admitted to hospital. One of the inmates later succumbed to injuries despite receiving treatment.<\/p>\n
The deceased has been identified as a 38-year-old inmate who had been remanded in custody on drug-related charges.<\/p>\n
Preliminary reports indicate that the incident took place when two inmates attempted to escape from their cells. During efforts by a prison guard to prevent the escape, a confrontation occurred, leading to the injuries.<\/p>\n
A complaint has also been lodged with the Borella Police, who have commenced a separate investigation into the matter, according to the Police Media Spokesperson.<\/p>\n
