Authorities believe that additional remains may still be present at the site, prompting the continuation of excavation work.<\/p>\n<p>Approval for the third phase was granted by the Jaffna Magistrate\u2019s Court following a request by the Judicial Medical Officer, who indicated that approximately <strong>eight weeks<\/strong> would be required to complete this phase.<\/p>\n<p>The commencement of the third phase had been delayed due to <strong>adverse weather conditions and the monsoon season<\/strong>, which caused the site to become waterlogged. The second phase of excavation concluded on <strong>September 6, 2025<\/strong>, and the third phase has now begun after a delay of nearly <strong>eight months<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The continuation of excavation at the Chemmani site is considered crucial in uncovering further evidence and advancing investigations related to past human rights concerns.
