It runs from June 1 to June 12.<\/p>\n<h3>AI and the Future of Work<\/h3>\n<p>Addressing the session, the Minister stressed that global discussions on AI should move beyond fears of job losses and instead focus on redesigning production systems to improve productivity and shared prosperity.<\/p>\n<p>He said Sri Lanka views AI as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A <strong>multiplier of productivity<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A <strong>catalyst for transitioning workers into higher-value jobs<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>A <strong>transformative force<\/strong> for modernising agriculture and informal sectors<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>He also noted that recent local research indicates around <strong>22.8% of Sri Lanka\u2019s workforce<\/strong> is exposed to generative AI, particularly in professional and office-based roles.<\/p>\n<h3>Digital Transformation Agenda<\/h3>\n<p>The Minister stated that Sri Lanka is adopting an \u201cAI-first\u201d approach as part of its broader digital transformation strategy under the leadership of President <strong>Anura Dissanayake<\/strong>, with plans to expand the digital economy and strengthen the digital workforce.<\/p>\n<h3>Labour Reforms and Rights<\/h3>\n<p>Reaffirming Sri Lanka\u2019s commitment to labour rights, he highlighted that the country ratified <strong>ILO Convention C190<\/strong> on violence and harassment in the workplace in May 2026.
