A historic Guinness World Record was set today (14 June) at Galle Face Green, Colombo, when 5,000 Bharatanatyam dancers performed together under the theme \u201cSangamam 2026,\u201d<\/strong> creating a synchronized rhythm with 10,000 ankle bells (salangai).<\/p>\n

The event was organized by Sangamam Global Academy<\/strong> and Sangamam Lia Holidays<\/strong> following a request made by Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure Development, Sundaralingam Pradeep, at a Tamil diaspora conference held in India. The programme was conducted under his guidance and support.<\/p>\n

The spectacular cultural event transformed Galle Face Green into a symbol of Tamil cultural pride. The synchronized performance showcased the beauty, discipline, and unity of Bharatanatyam to a global audience.<\/p>\n

Deputy Minister Pradeep, who attended as the chief guest, congratulated the performers and stated that the achievement was a proud moment for all Sri Lankans, highlighting Tamil artistic heritage on the world stage.<\/p>\n

Thousands of spectators, art enthusiasts, and foreign visitors gathered to witness the event. The sound of the dancers\u2019 ankle bells echoed across the seafront, creating a memorable cultural spectacle.<\/p>\n

The achievement was officially recognized by the Guinness World Records<\/strong> organization, and a certificate confirming the world record was presented to the Deputy Minister during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

Parents and students who participated expressed their gratitude for making such an event possible in Sri Lanka and called for greater support and recognition of cultural programmes in the future.<\/p>\n

Among the distinguished guests were Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha, Deputy Minister of Industries Mahinda Jayasinghe, and several other dignitaries.<\/p>\n
