The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has launched several initiatives aimed at empowering women through entrepreneurship development, with a special focus on women facing economic hardships.<\/p>\n
As part of the 2026 Budget proposals, the government has allocated Rs. 200 million<\/strong> for a programme dedicated to the advancement and economic empowerment of women.<\/p>\n The initiative seeks to transform medium-scale women entrepreneurs into high-level business leaders while creating access to both local and international market opportunities.<\/p>\n The programme also aims to strengthen the economic status of middle-income women through public-private partnerships, encourage unemployed young women to become entrepreneurs, and provide support to women affected by violence.<\/p>\n Beneficiaries will be identified under two key categories, with the objective of improving livelihoods and developing sustainable entrepreneurship opportunities.<\/p>\n The programme is designed to help women achieve financial independence and enhance their participation in economic activities.<\/p>\n Under the \u201cDivi Sarani\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cDiriya Mang Petha\u201d<\/strong> programmes, assistance will be provided to widows, women-headed households, women employed in the plantation and fisheries sectors, families connected to overseas employment, and women living in both rural and urban communities.<\/p>\n Special measures have also been introduced to support women affected by natural disasters, economic crises, and informal microfinance loan schemes.<\/p>\n The Ministry stated that the overall objective of the initiative is to improve women’s economic self-reliance, expand entrepreneurship opportunities, and strengthen their contribution to the country’s economic development.<\/p>\n The programme is expected to provide long-term benefits by creating sustainable income-generating opportunities for women across Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has launched several initiatives aimed at empowering women through entrepreneurship development, with a special focus on women facing economic hardships.
