{"id":2229,"date":"2026-06-06T04:16:31","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T04:16:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tamilmail.lk\/english\/?p=2229"},"modified":"2026-06-06T04:16:31","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T04:16:31","slug":"new-education-reforms-module-system-can-guide-students-toward-multidisciplinary-learning-prime-minister-harini-amarasuriya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tamilmail.lk\/english\/2026\/06\/06\/new-education-reforms-module-system-can-guide-students-toward-multidisciplinary-learning-prime-minister-harini-amarasuriya\/","title":{"rendered":"New Education Reforms&#8217; Module System Can Guide Students Toward Multidisciplinary Learning \u2013 Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prime Minister and Minister of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education Harini Amarasuriya stated that the &#8220;Module&#8221; system to be introduced under the new education reforms will help guide students toward multidisciplinary education by integrating knowledge from different fields.<\/p>\n<p>She made these remarks while addressing the National Steering Committee on Education Reforms, which met on June 3, 2026, at the Ministry of Education in Isurupaya.<\/p>\n<p>The committee, which includes Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation Anura Karunathilaka and Minister of Rural Development, Social Security and Community Empowerment Upali Pannilage, is responsible for guiding the implementation of the five main pillars of the education reform process.<\/p>\n<p>The primary objective of the committee is to oversee and standardize all aspects of the reform process and introduce high-quality educational reforms across the country.<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, members of the subcommittees responsible for the five key pillars presented progress reports, followed by detailed discussions on their recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of developing a balanced and successful curriculum that does not place unnecessary pressure on students. She noted that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Curricula should be revised to enhance students\u2019 aesthetic, life, and sports skills.<\/li>\n<li>The education system should be structured to meet students\u2019 continuous learning needs.<\/li>\n<li>A comprehensive public awareness programme should be developed to explain the full scope of the education reforms from Grade 1 to Grade 13.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Commenting on human resource development within the school system, the Prime Minister pointed out that funding has already been allocated for the development of teacher centers and that the government is paying special attention to upgrading National Colleges of Education.<\/p>\n<p>The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr. Madura Seneviratne, Secretary to the Ministry of Education Nalaka Kaluwewa, Director General of the National Institute of Education Senior Professor O.G.
