A discussion aimed at further strengthening economic cooperation between Sri Lanka and Germany was held on May 27 at the Prime Minister\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The meeting took place between Tobias Pierlings, Head of the Foreign Economic Policy Division for South Asia, Southeast Asia, and Oceania at Germany\u2019s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs, and Pradeep Saputhanthri.<\/p>\n
During the discussion, the Prime Minister\u2019s Secretary expressed appreciation for the continued support and cooperation extended by the German government toward Sri Lanka\u2019s development and economic progress.<\/p>\n
Tobias Pierlings highlighted the importance of the upcoming \u201cSri Lanka\u2013German Business Forum 2026,\u201d which is being organized by the German Industry and Commerce Representative Office in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
The three-day forum is expected to bring together around 350 senior stakeholders, including policymakers, business leaders, industry representatives, and experts from strategic sectors of both countries.<\/p>\n
He noted that the forum would serve as an important platform to deepen bilateral economic relations and create mutual economic benefits for both nations.<\/p>\n
Special attention was also given to the growth of Sri Lanka\u2019s information technology sector, which continues to make a significant contribution to the country\u2019s export economy.<\/p>\n
Both parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation in technology and innovation-based partnerships.<\/p>\n
Discussions were also held on skills development and vocational training in Sri Lanka, with special focus on the contribution made by the Ceylon German Technical Training Institute toward technical education and human resource development.<\/p>\n
The meeting was also attended by Felix Neumann, officials from the German Embassy, Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Sagarika Bogahawatta, and representatives from Sri Lanka\u2019s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
