Sri Lanka\u2019s Deputy Defence Minister Aruna Jayasekara visited the Jaffna District on Monday (26.05.2026) and carried out a field inspection in areas of the Palaly High Security Zone that have not yet been released to the public.<\/p>\n
The inspection was attended by Ramalingam Chandrasekar, Karunanathan Ilankumaran, Sri Lanka Army Commander Lasantha Rodrigo, Jaffna District Secretary Maruthalingam Pradeepan, military officials, and other government representatives.<\/p>\n
During the visit, officials stated that 21,280 acres of land within the High Security Zone have already been released.<\/p>\n
The District Secretary requested that lands located east of the Palaly Road be released as an initial step. In response, the Deputy Minister stated that the matter would be discussed at an upcoming National Security Council meeting.<\/p>\n
Attention was also drawn to the issue of compensation for lands acquired during the 1986 expansion of Palaly Airport, which has reportedly not yet been paid to affected landowners.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister stated that a separate discussion would soon be held in Colombo to address the compensation matter.<\/p>\n
In addition, officials and political representatives requested steps to allow public access to places of worship located within the High Security Zone and to release lands belonging to Veluppillai Vidyalayam.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
