Cabinet Spokesman and Minister Nalinda Jayatissa stated that the individual who made defamatory remarks regarding a girl affected in Anuradhapura must be held accountable, and that the law will be implemented fairly and without bias.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks during the weekly Cabinet media briefing held on Tuesday (26) at the Department of Government Information in Colombo, while responding to questions from journalists.<\/p>\n
The Minister emphasized that even Buddhist monks would face strict legal action if they act contrary to the law of the country. He stated that no one is above the legal system and that enforcement is currently being carried out without obstruction.<\/p>\n
He further noted that several complaints have already been received regarding the incident in which the affected minor was allegedly defamed and labeled in a highly inappropriate manner on social media and other platforms. Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.<\/p>\n
According to him, further legal proceedings will depend on the findings and progress of the police investigation. He added that the suspect must be held legally responsible for the psychological distress and social harm caused to the victim and her family.<\/p>\n
He stressed that such matters cannot be treated lightly or ignored, as they have serious consequences for the affected child and her family.<\/p>\n
Police officials have confirmed that more than 15 statements have already been recorded in connection with the incident. Further witness statements will be taken as the investigation progresses.<\/p>\n
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Sri Lanka Police and the National Child Protection Authority, ensuring a coordinated approach toward a fair legal process through the courts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
