The Department of Immigration and Emigration has announced that a free 30-day tourist visa facility for visitors from 40 countries came into effect today, Monday (25).<\/p>\n
Accordingly, citizens of 40 countries including Australia, France, Austria, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Germany, Nepal, South Korea, India, Canada, China, Japan, the United States, and the United Kingdom will be eligible for the free visa concession.<\/p>\n
The scheme applies to holders of diplomatic, official, service, and ordinary passports from the eligible countries.<\/p>\n
In addition, citizens of these 40 countries, as well as citizens of the Maldives, Seychelles, and Singapore \u2014 countries that maintain reciprocal visa agreements with Sri Lanka \u2014 are required to obtain an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) prior to arrival in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
The ETA approval for citizens of the Maldives, Seychelles, Singapore, and the above-mentioned 40 countries will be processed completely free of charge.<\/p>\n
Under this programme, tourists will be able to obtain a visa valid for up to 90 days. Within the initial 30-day validity period, visitors will be allowed double entry from the date of their first arrival in Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
Tourists wishing to stay in Sri Lanka for more than 30 days may apply for a visa extension by paying the relevant visa fees.<\/p>\n
The Department further stated that citizens of countries not eligible for the free ETA programme must continue to obtain visas under the existing standard rules and regulations of Sri Lanka\u2019s online visa system.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
