The Department of Meteorology issued the weather forecast for the sea areas around Sri Lanka at 5.30 a.m. on May 23, 2026.<\/p>\n

Rain Conditions<\/h3>\n

Showers or thundershowers are likely at several places in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Colombo and via Galle to Hambantota.<\/p>\n

In the other sea areas around the island, showers or thundershowers may occur at a few places during the evening or night.<\/p>\n

Wind Conditions<\/h3>\n

Winds over the sea areas around the island will blow from the southwest direction at speeds of 30\u201340 kmph.<\/p>\n

Wind speeds may increase at times up to 50\u201360 kmph in the sea areas extending from Puttalam to Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, and up to Pottuvil.<\/p>\n

In the other surrounding sea areas, wind speeds may occasionally increase up to 50 kmph.<\/p>\n

Sea Conditions<\/h3>\n

The sea areas from Puttalam to Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, and extending towards Pottuvil are expected to be rough at times.<\/p>\n

Other sea areas around the island are expected to be fairly rough.<\/p>\n

Wave heights in the offshore sea areas from Puttalam through Colombo, Galle, and Hambantota towards Pottuvil may rise between 2.0 and 3.0 metres. Authorities clarified that this does not refer to wave heights at the shore.<\/p>\n

During thundershowers, temporary strong gusty winds and very rough sea conditions can be expected in the affected sea regions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
