The project has now resumed after 12 years with the aim of preserving the rich cultural heritage of the Ampara District and fulfilling a long-standing request of the people of Nintavur.

The total estimated cost of the project is Rs. 945.04 million, of which Rs. 300 million has been allocated through the 2026 national budget. The remaining funds are expected to be released as needed, and the project is scheduled to be completed by 31 December 2027.

During his speech, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that the current government was formed with the support of all communities, including Sinhalese, Tamils, Muslims, Malays, and Burghers, making it a government built on national unity rather than division.

He emphasized that the people had given the government a mandate to defeat racist politics, eliminate corruption, establish the rule of law equally for everyone, and create a united country where all communities can live peacefully.

The President also highlighted several reforms introduced by the government, including the abolition of pensions for Members of Parliament after five years of service and the removal of special privileges previously granted to former presidents at state expense.

Addressing concerns over the economy, he acknowledged that Sri Lanka has faced several challenges, including the impact of Cyclone Dithva and the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has increased import costs and affected tourism and export earnings.

However, he stressed that the situation is completely different from the crisis in 2022. According to the President, Sri Lanka currently has nearly 7 billion US dollars in foreign reserves at the Central Bank, compared to only around 50 million dollars during the 2022 crisis period.

He further stated that an additional 700 million US dollars is expected to be received within the coming days, which would further strengthen the country’s foreign reserves.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake assured the public that shortages of fuel, gas, milk powder, and fertilizer — similar to those experienced in 2022 — would not be allowed to occur again.

While admitting that there is some economic pressure due to external global factors, particularly the conflict in the Middle East, he stated that the government has the capability and leadership needed to manage the situation successfully.

Anura Kumara Dissanayake stated that Sri Lanka will never face another economic crisis similar to that of 2022, despite ongoing concerns raised by some groups regarding the current economic situation.
