Minister of Justice and National Integration Harshana Nanayakkara stated in Parliament today (20) that steps are currently being taken to establish Provincial Government Chief Prosecution Offices across the country.<\/p>\n
The Minister noted that the initiative is being carried forward under the leadership of Supreme Court Justice Yasanta Kodagoda, who heads a special committee appointed for this purpose.<\/p>\n
Speaking further, Minister Nanayakkara explained that the proposed offices are intended to strengthen the country\u2019s judicial and legal system by improving the efficiency of criminal prosecutions and ensuring quicker access to justice for the public at the provincial level.<\/p>\n
He also stated that consultations have already been sought from the Bar Association and the Judicial Service Commission regarding the implementation of the project and the legal framework required for its establishment.<\/p>\n
According to the Minister, the process is not a simple task and requires careful planning and coordination. He emphasized that the government is focusing on creating a well-structured and effective system rather than rushing the process.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not an easy undertaking, but it is an essential reform that must be carried out. It will take time because we want to ensure that it is implemented properly and sustainably,\u201d he told Parliament.<\/p>\n
The Minister further pointed out that factors such as judicial independence, administrative efficiency, provincial requirements, and legal procedures must all be carefully considered before the offices are formally established.<\/p>\n
The government views this initiative as an important step in the reform and modernization of Sri Lanka\u2019s justice system, with the expectation that the new provincial prosecution offices will help provide a more transparent, efficient, and accessible legal service to the public in the future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
