Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has departed on an official visit to the United Kingdom to participate in the 22nd Annual Commonwealth Education Forum and the Commonwealth of Learning (COL) 2026 Board of Governors Meeting.<\/p>\n
During the visit, the Prime Minister is scheduled to take part in several high-level academic and diplomatic engagements aimed at strengthening cooperation in education, development studies, research collaboration, and international partnerships.<\/p>\n
As part of the programme, she will meet Ms. Bridget Phillipson, the UK Secretary of State for Education, at the Department for Education to discuss cooperation in education and related sectors. She is also expected to meet Ms. Yvette Cooper, the UK Foreign Secretary, for discussions on bilateral relations and cooperation between Sri Lanka and the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n
In addition, the Prime Minister will meet Ms. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, on the sidelines of the 22nd Commonwealth Education Forum and the COL 2026 Board of Governors Meeting.<\/p>\n
During the visit, she will attend a public event at the Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex and participate in the ceremony marking the 60th anniversary of the institute.<\/p>\n
She is also scheduled to deliver an address at the Oxford School of Global and Area Studies at the University of Oxford, followed by a question-and-answer session with academics and students.<\/p>\n
The visit is expected to further strengthen Sri Lanka\u2019s engagement with global academic institutions, development partners, and Commonwealth member states, particularly in education, research, policy dialogue, and capacity building.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
