A former Chief Legal Officer of Sri Lanka\u2019s Health Ministry has been remanded in custody until May 5 after being arrested on bribery allegations.<\/p>\n
The suspect was taken into custody by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption following an investigation based on a complaint.<\/p>\n
According to investigators, during his tenure, the suspect had facilitated the leasing of a building for the Health Ministry. He is alleged to have demanded Rs. 4,134,887 as a fee for preparing three lease agreements to extend the rental period.<\/p>\n
It is reported that he had already received Rs. 2 million and later requested the remaining balance. The arrest was made when he allegedly accepted Rs. 500,000 in cash, obtained through a cheque issued from a People\u2019s Bank account belonging to the relevant institution.<\/p>\n
The suspect was arrested around 3:45 p.m. yesterday and produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate, who ordered that he be remanded until May 5 pending further proceedings.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
