These two units were donated to the Ministry of Health by a private company, Premium International (Pvt) Ltd.<\/p>\n<p>The official handover ceremony was recently held, where the devices were presented to the Minister of Health and Mass Media, Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa.<\/p>\n<p>Manufactured in Germany, these advanced medical systems enable <strong>plasmapheresis treatment<\/strong>, a process used to filter and replace blood plasma. Through this technology, several critical medical conditions can be treated more effectively.<\/p>\n<h3>Medical applications of the equipment include:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Treatment of immune system complications caused by leptospirosis and snake bites<\/li>\n<li>Providing specialized care before and after organ transplant surgeries<\/li>\n<li>Supporting treatment for patients with blood cancer and thalassemia who are awaiting stem cell or bone marrow transplants<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Officials stated that these systems will significantly strengthen the country\u2019s capacity to manage complex medical cases requiring plasma-based therapy.<\/p>\n<p>Representatives from Premium International, including Director Mahesh Fernando and General Manager Asala Moses, stated that their main objective is to contribute to the improvement of Sri Lanka\u2019s healthcare sector through advanced medical technology support.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the event, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa noted that the government spends a significant portion of its annual budget on medicines and medical equipment to maintain Sri Lanka\u2019s free healthcare system. He emphasized that donations of this nature play an important role in further strengthening public health services.<\/p>\n<p>The National Blood Transfusion Service already operates 19 similar machines across government hospitals islandwide, benefiting a large number of patients annually.
