Mahinda Jayasinghe, Deputy Minister of Labour, stated that the government is attempting to resolve the issue surrounding the occupation of the Malwana house by university students through peaceful discussions rather than confrontation.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks while addressing the media regarding the incident in which the house in Malwana, which had reportedly been declared state property by court order, was occupied by members of the Inter University Students’ Federation.<\/p>\n
According to the Deputy Minister, authorities were informed that the property in Malwana, which had remained without any ownership claim for a long period, had now been occupied by university students.<\/p>\n
He stated that discussions are currently being held with the Ministry of Education, the relevant Divisional Secretary responsible for the property, and other officials in order to reach a solution to the matter soon.<\/p>\n
Mahinda Jayasinghe further noted that the students had occupied the property demanding that it be allocated to a nearby university.<\/p>\n
He acknowledged that university students have long faced serious issues related to hostel accommodation and lack of space within universities, adding that these concerns also deserve attention and solutions.<\/p>\n
Therefore, he stressed that the government is trying to settle the matter peacefully without entering into conflict with the students.<\/p>\n
The Deputy Minister also accused opposition parties of attempting to politically exploit the incident in order to criticize the government.<\/p>\n
He emphasized that the law applies equally to everyone and noted that even the President has publicly stated this position.<\/p>\n
According to him, if necessary, the President would not hesitate to appear before investigative bodies, including the Presidential Commission investigating the coal procurement issue or the committee examining the container release controversy, in order to provide evidence.<\/p>\n
Mahinda Jayasinghe further stated that the government would not act according to the narrow political agendas or slogans of opposition parties.<\/p>\n
He added that while the government respects the rule of law, opposition parties should avoid spreading false information and instead present any complaints regarding the coal procurement or container release matters directly before the relevant investigation committees.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
