Namal Rajapaksa, National Organizer of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and Member of Parliament, stated that many of the allegations leveled against him and his party are politically motivated and aimed at revenge.<\/p>\n
He made these remarks while addressing the media after a meeting with electoral organizers held yesterday at the SLPP headquarters.<\/p>\n
Speaking further, Namal Rajapaksa said that when former President Mahinda Rajapaksa was summoned before the Bribery Commission, a large number of supporters gathered outside the commission premises. He said members of the ruling party claimed that the SLPP had organized and brought those supporters.<\/p>\n
However, he denied the allegation, stating that the party did not call its supporters and that they came voluntarily on their own.<\/p>\n
He further stated that if the government truly wants to measure the SLPP\u2019s political strength, it should immediately hold the long-delayed Provincial Council elections. According to him, the party would then prove its public support.<\/p>\n
Namal Rajapaksa also claimed that numerous accusations against them have been made with political intentions and as acts of revenge. He said that if proper and fair investigations are conducted, they would be cleared of the allegations.<\/p>\n
However, he expressed doubts about whether investigations under the current government would be carried out independently.<\/p>\n
He accused President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of referring to the outcome of a court case during a political meeting even before the judiciary had delivered its verdict.<\/p>\n
According to Namal Rajapaksa, such actions pose a serious threat to the independence of the judiciary.<\/p>\n
