{"id":1164,"date":"2026-05-12T17:38:21","date_gmt":"2026-05-12T17:38:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tamilmail.lk\/english\/?p=1164"},"modified":"2026-05-12T17:38:21","modified_gmt":"2026-05-12T17:38:21","slug":"12-spill-gates-of-rajanganaya-reservoir-opened-due-to-rising-water-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tamilmail.lk\/english\/2026\/05\/12\/12-spill-gates-of-rajanganaya-reservoir-opened-due-to-rising-water-levels\/","title":{"rendered":"12 Spill Gates of Rajanganaya Reservoir Opened Due to Rising Water Levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Irrigation engineers have taken steps to open all 12 spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir as water levels continue to rise rapidly.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities stated that the inflow to the reservoir increased significantly after the spill gates of the Kala Wewa reservoir were opened due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas.<\/p>\n<p>The Irrigation Engineer in charge of the reservoir said that the number of opened spill gates was increased from yesterday evening (11) in consideration of the reservoir\u2019s safety.<\/p>\n<p>Accordingly, four spill gates have been opened up to 6 feet each, another four up to 5 feet each, and the remaining four up to 4 feet each.<\/p>\n<p>Through these gates, approximately 14,287 cubic feet of water per second is being released into the Kala Oya.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas on both sides of the Kala Oya, as well as people using the river, to remain highly vigilant due to the rising water levels.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Irrigation engineers have taken steps to open all 12 spill gates of the Rajanganaya Reservoir as water levels continue to rise rapidly.
