The Mallakam Magistrate\u2019s Court is scheduled to issue its order on May 21 regarding Bhavani Road, which is alleged to have been occupied for the expansion of Thaiyiddy Tissa Viharaya.<\/p>\n
The court rejected a request made by the police seeking to halt efforts by the local council to reopen and release the road for public use.<\/p>\n
During the proceedings, the bond application submitted by the police was also dismissed by the court.<\/p>\n
Recently, survey activities had been planned on lands alleged to have been occupied for the construction and expansion of the vihara.<\/p>\n
Following this, Somasundaram Sugirthan, Chairman of the Valikamam North Pradeshiya Sabha, had sent a letter to the chief incumbent Jindotta Nandarama Thero demanding that the boundary structure blocking the road be removed within two days, warning that the local council would otherwise remove it.<\/p>\n
In response, the chief monk lodged a complaint with the police, after which police sought a court order to prevent the council from proceeding with its action.<\/p>\n
However, the court stated that it could not issue a ruling solely based on police submissions.<\/p>\n
The court also instructed Somasundaram Sugirthan and the Secretary of the Valikamam North Pradeshiya Sabha to appear before court regarding the matter.<\/p>\n
M. A. Sumanthiran appeared on behalf of Sugirthan during the hearing.<\/p>\n
During arguments, it was stated that the police should support the implementation of the law rather than act against it, and that opposing lawful action could create communal tension.<\/p>\n
The court subsequently rejected the case and announced that its final order would be delivered on May 21.<\/p>\n
