WEAIR Launch Marks Major Boost for Sri Lanka’s Air Cargo and Logistics Sector

The launch of WEAIR in Sri Lanka marks a significant investment aimed at strengthening the country’s air cargo capacity and enhancing regional connectivity, according to Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath.
The Minister made these remarks while attending the inauguration ceremony of the Luxembourg-backed project.
WEAIR will operate as a Sri Lanka-based cargo airline, connecting Colombo with major destinations across South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Indian Ocean region, the Middle East, and Africa.
Addressing the event, Minister Herath stated that the project demonstrates growing international confidence in Sri Lanka’s economic potential and strategic location. He noted that the initiative would support the country’s ambition of becoming a regional logistics hub while boosting trade, exports, tourism-related supply chains, and cargo transportation services.
The Minister further highlighted the company’s potential to create employment opportunities and contribute to the development of Sri Lanka’s aviation and logistics sectors.
The event was attended by WEAIR representatives, investors, industry stakeholders, and officials from the aviation and logistics sectors.
