National Coastal Cleanup Programme Launched Under “Clean Sri Lanka” Initiative

A nationwide coastal cleanup programme was launched yesterday (23) under the theme “Let’s Transform Clean Beaches into Attractive Tourist Destinations” in line with the “Clean Sri Lanka” programme.
As part of the initiative, the main event in the Batticaloa District was held this morning at the Pasikudah Beach under the programme titled “Island-wide Coastal Cleanup Campaign.”
The shramadana campaign, organised by the Sri Lanka Army, was attended by Eastern Province Army Commander Major General Janaka Pallekumbura.
Other participants included Additional Government Agent of Batticaloa District Mrs. Sudarshini Sreekanthan, Koralaipattu Divisional Secretary Jeyanandhi Thiruchelvam, Ottamavadi Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman M.M.M. Halaldeen, Valaichenai Police OIC K.G.S. Sanjeewa, Kalkudah Police OIC Shihan Dilanka, Kalkudah Police Environmental Officer M.A. Raheem, National People’s Power District Organiser K. Dileepkumar, and Eastern Province Tourism Development Authority Pasikudah Manager M.H.M. Mahir, along with several others.
Plastic waste, broken glass, and other environmentally harmful garbage found along the coastal area were removed during the cleanup operation.
